The printed expiry
ISO/IEC 17021-1 §8.2.2 requires a certification document to identify its expiry date. On a three-year cycle, a certificate issued in late 2026 prints an expiry in late 2029.
The transition end
ISO 9001:2026 was published in September 2026. Under the transition requirements issued by Global ACI on 4 September 2026, certificates to ISO 9001:2015 are valid until 30 September 2029 at the latest. A certificate whose printed expiry falls after that date is not valid past it.
The same document sets two earlier dates: accreditation bodies complete their transition decisions by 30 September 2027, and from 31 March 2028 new certifications are issued only to ISO 9001:2026.
What this means when you read a certificate
For a certificate to ISO 9001:2015, read the standard's year first and the expiry second. Any printed expiry after 30 September 2029 is capped at that date.
For a certificate to ISO 9001:2026, the printed expiry stands. Such a certificate can only exist once the issuing body's accreditation covers the 2026 edition, which a buyer can check on the accreditation body's public register.
What this means if you hold one
Plan the transition with your next surveillance or recertification audit. The transition audit reviews the changed requirements, changes to your organization's context and any other changes the management system needs. If you choose not to transition, the certificate expires on 30 September 2029, whatever it prints.
CAS's position
CAS continues to issue EGAC-accredited ISO 9001:2015 certificates until EGAC records its transition decision on CAS, due by 30 September 2027. Those certificates carry the 30 September 2029 limit. CAS will contact each certified client to plan its transition audit.
