The audit checks that your quality management system meets every requirement of ISO 9001:2015, clauses 4 to 10: context of the organisation, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation and improvement. Auditors look for evidence that the system is implemented and effective in practice, not only documented. Any nonconformity must be addressed before the certificate is issued.

Stage 1 reviews your documentation, confirms the scope of certification and checks whether your management system is ready for Stage 2. Stage 2 is the full on-site audit that evaluates whether the system is effectively implemented and meets all requirements of the standard. Nonconformities identified must be corrected before the certificate is issued.

A CAS ISO 9001 certificate is valid for 3 years. Annual surveillance audits in Year 1 and Year 2 verify that your management system continues to meet the requirements of the standard, and a full recertification audit takes place in Year 3 to renew the certificate for a new cycle.

Amendment 1:2024 (Climate action changes) to ISO 9001:2015 was published in February 2024. It adds two requirements: §4.1 — the organisation shall determine whether climate change is a relevant issue; §4.2 — a NOTE that relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change. CAS incorporates these requirements into all certification audits, so your certificate reads ISO 9001:2015 + Amd.1:2024.

ISO 9001:2015 is the current edition and a revision is being carried out by ISO/TC 176/SC 2. No publication date, transition arrangement or content has been settled: transition arrangements for accredited certificates are set by IAF resolution, and a draft is not the standard. Your certificate names an edition, and that edition governs until an arrangement says otherwise. Certification to a new edition begins only once the accreditation body has extended the certification body's scope to cover it.
