Yes. CAS is accredited by EGAC, the Egyptian Accreditation Council, as a certification body under ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 (accreditation certificate 012418A, schedule 012418B), valid to 27 November 2029. ISO 50001:2018 energy management is one of the six standards in that accredited scope. CAS audits it under ISO 50003:2021, the standard that sets the requirements for bodies certifying energy management systems.

ISO 50001 is one of the five standards within EGAC's IAF MLA scope, together with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 22000. Because EGAC is a signatory to the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement, an accredited CAS ISO 50001 certificate is recognised as equivalent by accreditation bodies in 100+ economies. It carries the EGAC and IAF marks, and is published to IAF CertSearch.

Amendment 1:2024 is the climate action change ISO published for ISO 50001:2018 and other management system standards. It adds two requirements: in clause 4.1 the organisation shall determine whether climate change is a relevant issue, and clause 4.2 gains a note stating that relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change. The CAS scheme is ISO 50001:2018 + Amd.1:2024, and CAS incorporates these requirements into all certification audits.

Certification follows two stages. Stage 1 reviews your documentation, confirms the scope of certification and checks readiness. Stage 2 is the full on-site audit against every requirement of ISO 50001: energy policy and leadership, the energy review, energy baseline and energy performance indicators, significant energy uses, objectives, energy targets and action plans, competence, operational control, design and procurement, monitoring and measurement, management review and improvement. Nonconformities identified must be corrected before the certificate is issued.

They are three linked requirements in clause 6 of ISO 50001. The energy review analyses energy use and consumption to identify significant energy uses and improvement opportunities. The energy baseline is the reference against which change in energy performance is measured. Energy performance indicators (EnPIs) are the measures the organisation uses to track that performance. Certification checks that all three exist, are based on data, and are kept up to date.

An accredited CAS certificate is valid for 3 years. Annual surveillance audits in Year 1 and Year 2 verify that the energy management system continues to meet the requirements of ISO 50001, that energy performance is still being monitored against the baseline, and that previously identified nonconformities have been addressed. A full recertification audit in Year 3 renews the certificate for a further cycle.

Yes. ISO 50001 is designed to be integrated with quality, environmental and other management systems, and it shares the harmonised structure used by ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. CAS conducts integrated audits covering multiple ISO management system standards simultaneously, in accordance with IAF MD 11:2023, so common clauses such as context, leadership and management review are audited once. You receive separate certificates for each standard.

ISO 50001 is accredited without IAF technical-code restriction in EGAC schedule 012418B, so the accreditation applies to energy management systems across all sectors: manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings, hospitality, data centres, hospitals, universities and municipalities alike.
