What it is
ISO 30401:2018 specifies requirements, with guidance, for a management system for knowledge management. It covers how an organisation develops, shares, retains and applies the knowledge it needs, and how it establishes, maintains, reviews and improves the system that supports this.
Who needs it
Organisations of any type or size that depend on specialist or experience-based knowledge — for example engineering, consulting, research, public-sector and professional service organisations.
Audit process
Certification follows a two-stage initial audit (Stage 1 and Stage 2) under ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015, with annual surveillance audits and recertification every three years. The certificate is issued By CAS, outside CAS's EGAC accreditation, and can be verified on CAS CertSearch.

Is ISO 30401 certification by CAS accredited?
No. CAS issues ISO 30401 certificates By CAS, under its own authority and outside its EGAC accreditation, which covers ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 22000, 50001 and 22301 only. The certificate carries the CAS mark, not the EGAC or IAF marks, and can be verified on CAS CertSearch.
How does ISO 30401 relate to ISO 9001?
ISO 9001:2015 includes a requirement on organisational knowledge (clause 7.1.6). ISO 30401 sets requirements for a management system dedicated to knowledge management; it can be implemented on its own or alongside ISO 9001.
